The Great Wall at Juyongguan
The Great Wall at Juyongguan is the closest section to Beijing and has been newly renovated. It is still not too crowded since tour buses are still packing it to Badaling. This might change in the future.
Juyongguan is one of the three great passes of the Great Wall of China. It was considered one of the major strategically important sections because of its position as a link to Beijing.
If you are in a hurry, this is your best bet. However, there are no cable cars to bring you to the top and the climb is a steep one. Something to consider if you are traveling with really small children and/or grandparents. There is a Temple and other attractions nearby and there are also replicas of the Terracotta Warriors. To some people, this wall is "too sanitized". If you prefer the more natural and authentic, this might not be for you.
Many thanks to Luciano from Montevideo who provided the above video from Juyongguan. Luciano had a chance to visit Beijing while on a 6-month assignment to Shanghai in 2007.
